Now You See It

The Bionic Eye Integrated specialist Corona UV camera technology with a drone platform would deliver real-time detection and allow for adjustments of component failures. It would provide efficiency and ensure safety in the utilities industry.

THE CHALLENGE

We were approached by Ofil, the sensor manufacturer who had produced a specialist Corona UV camera that could quite literally become crucial for the utility industry in detecting component failures invisible to the human eye on electricity pylons. Our task was to find a way to integrate this technology into a drone platform.

THE SOLUTION

Our integration of the specialist Corona UV camera with a gyro-stabilised gimbal and engineering of the electronics to enable ground control of the camera via a live telemetry link created a unique setup. This setup allowed for real-time adjustments to camera settings, significantly enhancing the detection of Corona issues and their severity during flight.

THE OUTCOME

Our solution was a success. We built a system that allowed the ground operator to gain a live video link from the Corona UV camera. Once an issue was detected, the operator could adjust the camera settings remotely, enabling the detection of Corona issues and their severity in flight. This ability not only improved the efficiency of the utilities industry but also ensured the safety of the infrastructure.
